CRISTINA NAVARRETE

The Past 20 years Cristina Navarrete lived in Central California. She received her B.s. from USC. Studied art at Bakersfield Junior College, Bakersfield State and Long Beach State Colleges. Most recently she has traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico and Aspen, Colorado for advanced studies in Monoprinting.

Last April she traveled to Cuba with three other artists to exhibit and exchange printing techniques with fellow artists of Habana.

Navarrete's art has its foundations in abstract expressionism. She grew up in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, experiencing the external world of a large city and all its images. This early exposure to visual stimuli

of a large and diverse city, together with the experience of the Central Valley farming community continues to inspire and influence her work.

Her blending of colors, bold and intense with the addition of texture makes each work spontaneous and unrestrained, allowing the viewer to respond and connect visually. Her studio is in Del Mar, California.

Her work is in numerous collections in the UsA and abroad.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Through my artwork, I try to reflect my response to everyday life. Through abstract images, I speak directly to the viewer about the possibility of an inner-consciousness. Each painting brings forward concepts of change and discovery. By creating a diverse yet cohesive palette, inventive color combinations and textural depth I convey different moods that are full of life and emotion.

TESTIMONIALS

Navarrete's artwork reflects her response to everyday life. Through abstract imagery, the artist speaks directly to the viewer about the possibility of an inner-consciousness. Each painting brings forward concepts of change and discovery at the site of human experience.

Clearly a masterful colorist, Navarrete layers and blends vibrant color without modesty or hesitation. The impact is highly dynamic. She brings together warm and cool colors within one painting creating a diverse yet cohesive palette. With a practice rooted in Printmaking and painting she is both adventurous and inventive in her color combinations. Cristina Navarrete uses textural depth to create different moods throughout her work. Her artwork is full of life both artistically and emotionally. Her artistic success is largely due to the luminous colors and expressive quality of her art.
